The best kits in the Northwest

lfgouldbourn

In our first edition we went through the north west’s worst football kits.

But this week we’re going a bit more glass half-full, so we’ve decided to do the best of the north west.

We asked you, the reader, over on X (formerly known as Twitter) what you think is the best north west football kit and here are the top three:

3rd Chorley away The classic British green with a nice 70s pattern in the background makes it look a bit like a pub carpet, but it works. The bronze brings the whole traditional vibe with a modern twist together, although it could be a tad more visible. All in all a nice kit and a worthy third place. One of our team members is absolutely fuming this is in…but the people have spoken! Personally I think it’s pretty tidy.

2nd Tranmere GK A goalkeeper kit? Yes a goalkeeper kit! The taboo of appreciating goalkeeper kits is done and it’s thanks to this absolute stunner from Tranmere. Where do I start? The centralized badge is fantastic, the collar fits the design perfectly and that shade of purple is just a thing of beauty and mixed with the 90s bus seat pattern is just sublime. The central badge, pattern and colour give it a suave retro feel and the fact it’s a goalkeeper kit, that are often forgotten by kit designers, makes it even better.

I promise I’m not biased… 1st Chester home Pipping the Tranmere keeper strip by just five percent of the vote is Chester FC’s home kit. Firstly it’s made by Luke1977 which usually means it’s going to be a good design and they’ve done it again here. The progression from lighter to darker blue as you go down looks really smart. The white stripes are big enough to add to the design, but small enough not to be the main event and distract from the rest of the shirt. The collar and sleeve designs add a nice splash of the yellow that is seen in the club’s badge. An all round well thought out kit with a crisp design that will definitely be a fan’s favourite for years to come.

Which is your favourite?

  • Chorley

  • Tranmere

  • Chester

  • Other?
