WSL weekend preview

Rio Blackburn

12 Mar 2024

With only seven games left until the end of the 2023/24 WSL season, only three points separate the top three, with Northwest clubs actively fighting for Champions League qualification.

Manchester United sit fourth in the league following an unwelcome draw away at 11th place West Ham last Sunday.

Winning two of their last five outings and suffering a 3-1 defeat to rivals Arsenal who sit directly above them in the pecking order.

The Red Devils need a late season resurgence if they have any hope of securing European football next season.

Liverpool crashed out of the FA Cup Quarter-Final over the weekend, however, their recent league performances put them back in the running with rivals Manchester United, and they’re now level on points but trailing on goal difference.

Three wins on the bounce for the reds in the WSL puts them fifth and extends the gap to six points from Tottenham in sixth place.

Manchester City continue to produce dazzling displays having only dropped points on three occasions this season.

The Citizens are currently second in the WSL, level on points with Chelsea who occupy first place heading into the business end of the season.

Despite their FA Cup and FA women’s cup exit at the hands of Chelsea and Tottenham, City have won their last five league games and have the best form of any team in the league.

Everton have struggled to pick up points recently and sit eight points clear of relegation in 10th place.

West Ham are hot on their tails with only two points separating the sides. The Blues have won just one of their last five games losing to Man City in the last fixture, however, a win on Saturday against Aston Villa could push them up into 7th place.
