Wigan Warriors remain the only unbeaten side in the 2024 Betfred Super League after a late victory over Salford Red Devils on Thursday evening.
Jake Wardle and Beven French scored two quick fire tries in the last four minutes to secure all the points on the night.
The Cherry and Whites had played one game less coming into round five, but have now built themselves a two point gap to the chasing pack, who are all still be play this weekend.
Salford led the game with four minutes to play, but in heart-breaking fashion they let a further two points slip through their fingers. The Red Devils remain in sixth place, having won three of their opening five matches.
St Helens and Warrington Wolves both travel some distance this weekend as they look to go level on points with Wigan.
St Helens face a Leeds Rhinos side who are in good form themselves, whilst Warrington head to bottom of the league London Broncos, who are yet to pick up a point this season.
Sandwiched in-between those fixtures is an important clash of two teams wedged in the bottom four. Leigh Leopards are also yet to pick up any points this campaign, but they have a big chance to kickstart their 2024 when they travel to Hull FC.
