Crewe’s Luke Humphries extends his lead to seven points at the top of the Premier
League Darts table, after beating Michael Smith to get his third night win in a row on
night eight in Dublin.
Humphries started the night well after hammering last placed Peter Wright 6-1 in the quarter finals, averaging nearly 107.
Teenage sensation Luke Littler faced an out of form Michael Smith in an all north west tie.
Luke ‘The Nuke’ sped into a 3-1 lead before a composed Michael Smith clawed the game back to 4-4, with Bullyboy taking the final two legs and taking a 6-4 victory into the semi-finals.
Stockport’s Nathan Aspinall played out a thriller with former world champion Rob Cross.
With both averaging over 100, Aspinall won a last leg decider to beat ‘Voltage’ 6-5 to make his fourth consecutive Premier League semi-final.
Unfortunately Aspinall wouldn’t get a chance of winning his second night with world number one Luke Humphries being too much for the Asp to handle.
Aspinall averaged a whole 10 less than ‘Cool Hand’ Luke with Humphries winning 6-4. But it wasn’t all doom and gloom for the Asp.
Despite losing, reaching the semi-finals put him third in table in his continued hunt for the play offs.
On the other side of the semi-finals, Michael Smith would go the distance with Gerwyn Price.
In one of the best games of the night that saw both players average over a ton Smith would edge it 6-5 after taking out 104 for the match.
Despite Smith’s good form on the night, Humphries would have the rub of the green in Dublin with the Crewe man strolling past Smith 6-2.
The win puts Humphries seven points clear at the top of the table and makes it a hattrick of night wins for Cool Hand.
