Morecambe FC ladies will be attempting to break their record attendance when they face Radcliffe FC Women at the Mazuma stadium on Sunday 24 March.
Morecambe Ladies play in the Northwest Women’s Regional League. They are looking to showcase what women’s football has to offer lower down the pyramid as they attempt to attract another bumper crowd.Â
Last season they played their first ever competitive fixture at the Mazuma Stadium, beating Workington Reds Ladies 5-1 in front of a crowd of 654, a new record for the women’s team.Â
Next Sunday they will be looking to break that record, with the club announcing that they will be allowing season ticket holders for the men’s team and all children in for free. For all other spectators they will only charge five pounds.Â
The team was established in 2005 when Sophie Fish formed Lancaster and Morecambe Ladies to provide an opportunity for females to play football in the district.Â
Two years later they were approached by Morecambe FC to become the club’s female side, and since then the club has grown massively. In 2018 they started a junior section as well as having a fully dedicated volunteer team of coaching staff.Â
The main aim for Morecambe Ladies is to rise through the divisions, and a growing fanbase will only aid that. Â
