Manchester has once again been unveiled as one of the host cities for the group stages of this year's Davis Cup finals.
Widely regarded as the men’s ‘World Cup of Tennis’, the competition sees its national teams from around the world compete to be named as world champions of the sport.Â
Some of the sport's biggest names will take to the court at the AO Arena between September 10-15 for its group stages.Â
The format will remain the same as last year, with Great Britain joining last year's finalists Spain and 14 other nations in being split into four groups of four countries.Â
Each nation will play three times over the six-day competition. The top two from each group will then advance to a quarter final held in Malaga from November 19-24.Â
Manchester is a perfect fit for the tournament, which will provide a welcome boost for the local economy as well as being great news for tennis fans in the UK and the North.
Â
Last year the tournament generated excitement locally across Manchester, particularly amongst the youngest tennis players at our clubs and parks.Â
Britain won the Davis Cup for the first time in 79 years back in 2015 and have since reached two semi-finals and three quarter-finals. Â
Manchester is the fifth British city to host the Davis Cup in the last 11 years.Â
